Man schreibt das Jahr 1970: Ein gewisser William Francis Jones reist von seiner Heimatstadt Tenby in Wales, Grossbritannien, ins Berner Oberland nach Grindelwald. Im Gepäck hat er eine absolvierte Ausbildung als Koch sowie – schon damals – einen unglaublichen Drang zur Musik, besonders zum Bigband-Sound. «In Wales hatte ich mit ein paar Schulkollegen eine Band. Wir nannten uns 'The Frantic Five'», sagt Billy Jones. Musikalisch muss er nun aber etwas kürzer treten, beruflich ist Billy Jones sehr ausgelastet. Nach einigen Jahren im Hotel Adler folgt eine Beschäftigung beim Sunstar Hotel. Danach arbeitet Billy Jones beim Hotel Bahnhof Derby und schlussendlich landet er beim Parkhotel Schoenegg bei Hansruedi und Doris Stettler. 1982 schliesslich verlässt Billy Jones, inzwischen 33-jährig, zusammen mit seiner Frau und drei Kindern das Gletscherdorf in Richtung Freienbach am Zürichsee. «Das Berner Oberland habe ich immer im Herzen behalten», so Jones. «Ich bin Waliser durch und durch.
