Ohne die Singers Unlimited gäbe es keine Manhattan Transfer, keine Take 6. Oder diese würden zumindest anders klingen. Denn die Arrangement-Kunst von Gene Puerling hat die Technik des Satz-Gesangs verändert, veredelt. Als Gil Evans der Vokalisten hat er seinem Stimm-Quartett zu Atmosphären und Schwebungen verholfen, die weit entfernt vom Doo-Wop früherer Jahre waren. (Die 7-CD-Sonder-Edition) ist nicht nur ein jazzarchäologischer Kraftakt. Sie ist auch ein Juwel für Feinsinnige.
